Illustraing my Books

I Am Not Sarge T Douglas, but ...

I added long hair with special software to this picture of me taken in about 1980/81 at the age of 29/30. I then drew a picture to represent my fictional character, Sarge T. Douglas. This photo helped me to replicate his initial arrival in the Village of Birch Clump for the novel "Hawk Dancer."
My method for many of the illustrations I did began by tracing a rough outline and then free hand drawing in the rest. I now use a tablet drawing system hooked to my computer. I can sketch, paint, and , more from special art soft ware with a stylus on the tablet and watch my progress on screen.

His first appearance in the novels is brief, perhaps in 1971 or 72. The twin Friars, Joseph Mandaammin and Cuahtlotatzin (Eagle Voice) met him in Turkey. He showed up again in August of 1978 as pictured on this page; this time in the Village of Birch Clump.
This drawing was done in my earlier pre-computer tablet drawing days. I intend to produce a new version, same setting, soon via the tablet and drawing soft ware.
In this picture: He parked his 1978 Fiat Strata outside the village restaurant. The waitress, taken in by his long hair and skin tight Jordach jeans, walked into another customer spilling the drinks on her tray.

Background is Lake anderson at the Anishinabe Spiritual Centre in Onatario, Canada not far from Espanola, ON. Shirt and tight jeans came from yet another photo. Face is from one of my high school class photos. Long hair drawn in to give T. douglas a psuedo-hippy look common of the 1960s.

My blogs and our Birch Clump Village E-News letters are making a come back after about a year's absence on my part. So sign up on our contact page if you are nor already a subscriber. A lot of exciting changes challenged my time to keep the blog, web site and new letters going these past several months. For one, I am now the Community Superior for my monastery. We have a newly renovated book and gift store that I attend to. My latest book, I hope, will be coming out before the end of this year (2019). The photo is of me inserted into a class room similar to the ones I once attended for grade school.

There are over 150 plants in Brother Joshua's garden. Most are herbs and flowers. He also grows gourds and a few vegetables. You may contact him via the website "contact us" page if you are interested in his Sweet Annie & Mug wort sachets. Sweet aroma, this mixture also dispels spiders and mosquitoes. Pictured here are muslin bags containing three sachets each for only $6.95 + shipping (USPS only within the USA)
