Contact the Author
I hope this page will make it easy for you to contact me. I enjoy hearing from readers of my books, potential readers and from
visitors to my two web sites. However, just in case you want to contact me to sell something – let me help you out ahead of time.
I took a vow of poverty and as such I probably can’t afford to buy. But, thanks for the offer anyway.
I think the easiest way to contact me is via email. Neither of us has to count time zones or play phone tag with the email option
and it gives me time to research a response to some of the more enjoyable inquiries I receive. My email tabs are coded so that only
real live human beings are able to email me (or so I hope that’s the case). However, like most anyone else, I may have certain
anxieties in opening email from an unknown first time contact. So, you might consider placing the letters “HD” in the subject
line along with a short title of why you are writing. An example might be: HD, More about Jacob.
Subject lines like that are a positive suggestion that the person emailing me is a real person and read at least some of my site;
or maybe even my books.
Speaking of which, if you did read my books (or at least one of them) write a review and send it to me. And if you register or are
registered with Barnes & Noble, Amazon or another on
line book seller, give them a review of my book(s).
If you email me from my other web site, note that the email address link from www.orderofstjames.com is different than this one from
www.hawkdancer.com. I respond to both, but the other email from sgttdouglas (Sgt. T. Douglas) might throw you off if I don’t say
anything here about that.
(This will not click, yoshua@hawkdancer.com , but its encoded in case you need to copy the
address if your are useing a computer that you cannot email from.)
Email didn't work?
1. Most emails will make it to my regular in box. However, some first time Email'ers are auto-directed to the "junk" or spam folder.
If that happened, then it may be upwards of three or four days before I discover your email. Please be patient or try again later.
Or: opt for another form of contact on this page.
2. If you copied/pasted my email address or wrote it down, please verify that everything is spelled as I spelled it, and is in lower case letters.
3. You might be using a company, school or library internet system that has blocks, locks or other protective controls on out going emails.
Phone contact failed?
The phone number listed is via Skypes, but should work fine for all cell and land lines in the USA and Canada. VOICE MAIL: My work keeps me on
the move and therefore I am not always at my office computer to recieve the call. It will rings several times (average of 8-10 rings) before
the voice mail option comes on. Leave a message. I return most calls that have a message (other than from tele-marketers).
Waited a week or more for my reply?
In addition to the above suggestions: I might be on vacation. Most places I visit do not have internet access. My vactions lasts
upwards of three weeks in summer, 10 days at Christmas time. Wait or try again in a few days or a week. I deleat ALL email that does not have a
subject line.
Phone:
I have voice mail. Please leave a message on the voice mail. My ministry keeps me away from my personal phone the
better part of the day, but I usually check messages every couple of hours.
My number is 1-718-865-8781. Sorry, but I can return calls only to numbers in the USA & Canada.
Postal Mail:
My address is:
Bro. Joshua Seidl, SSP
Society of St. Paul
2187 Victory Blvd.
Staten Island, NY 10314
I am a prolific letter writer. There is no requirement that you send a SASE (self addressed stamped envelope), but doing so would be
very helpful and I normally include some token souvenir or gift in my replies such as a book mark, and if the envelope is large enough,
a standard post card depicting scenes from my novels – free if you include a SASE. (USA only because of the postage stamp).
Ordering books:
If you are interested in obtaining signed copies of my novels from me personally, then please inquire to their availability. I keep a
very limited number of copies on hand because most customers chose to order from a regular book store or on line from the major book
sellers. I think it’s a good idea to order through a regular store or on-line bookseller, such as
Barnes & Noble if you don’t know me
or any seller personally. Do not send pre-payment for books without checking with me for availability. I accept money orders (or checks
from people I know or I can other wise verify). I am not able to process credit cards, so please do not even think of sending a credit
card number via email or mail. Believe it or not, there are folks who would send a credit card number to an unsecured email address.
I will give special discounts to Church and school libraries and to clergy on limited income. Anyone that I am able to service with a
signed book will receive a discount (plus s/h). Details are on my “Ordering” page.
Getting the word out:
These books, in addition to being enjoyable to read, promote a message of social peace and justice. They are an excellent resource for
students and professionals in the fields of cultural diversity, social work, social studies, inculturation and of various forms of
inter-cultural ministries.
Proceeds of the sale of the books I write assist the mission of the Priests and Brothers of the Society of St. Paul. I am a professed
member of the Society of St. Paul. (That’s about the same as being a monk.) We utilize all forms of modern media and social communications.
I turn over my sales and royalty payments to this mission.
Some readers have asked me how they can help out. First of all, I express my gratitude for their original purchase of my books.
Second: You can contact me for business cards and postcards to pass out to people and places you think would be interested
in my books. Getting the word out, telling others is always a great help.
Third: For those who have asked about finacial assistance: donations can be sent to
the Society of St. Paul. Specify the intent of the donation, such as support
of the Society of St. Paul. If the donation is related to the spread of these books, you might contact me first so that your donation can
be appropriately used according to your intent of giving.
With regards to specifically providing copies of my books to libraries and other not
for profit venues I suggest you consider one of three methods: The first is that you can directly order copies and present them to the
library yourself. The second would be to check with the library of your choice (or other not for profit) if they can accept your donation
and order on your behalf, (you would be making the donation directly to the library, school or seminary of your choice in this case).
The third method would be to order a signed copy from me, but make the check out to the Society of St. Paul. Please contact me
before ordering for details if you chose to order from me, and to be certain I have copies on hand.
Looking for My Web Site Updates:
The top of the right hand column on my home page lists what's been updated in the past month.
Meet me in person:
I keep a schedule of events and personal appearances. See the main site index for “Events.” I place a small icon of a feather pen next
to exhibits or other events I plan on visiting. It is possible that last minute changes occur in that I cannot attend an event I marked
with the feather pen icon; but 95% of the time I attend events so marked.
You can also visit me at the Society of St. Paul, but I strongly suggest you call at least a day or two in advance or more if possible.
I am obligated to attend to my assigned ministries and meetings first over unexpected drop in company. Calling ahead will also make it
easier on you if you’re coming some distance and I’m not even home at the time.
I love company, but I have to be fair to my professed ministry obligations first.
